I recently saw the movie Rear Window directed by Alfred Hitchcock, one of the best directors in history. The one main character in Rear Window is L.B. Jefferies which is played by James Stewart. I’m going to discuss who L.B. Jefferies is, what he wants and what he learns about himself throughout the film.
L.B. Jefferies is a photographer in the mid-fifties. He broke his leg while taking pictures so he is stuck in his apartment with nothing to do except look out his window at all the people. He is a very sneaky person because he hides in the dark and looks in other people’s apartments with his binoculars.
What I believe L.B. Jefferies wants is something to do. So while he is staring out his window he thinks he sees a murder. He is stuck in his apartment, bored so he jumps on it as a opportunity to do something besides sit in his apartment alone staring at other people.
What he learns about him self throughout the film is that he is caring person. Sure he is spying on everyone but he still cares about them. For example, when he believed that the woman was killed he was determined to prove the husband was guilty. He felt bad about the woman being killed and wanted to solve the crime.
In conclusion, L.B. Jefferies is a caring person that wanted to see justice being done. He proved the murder was committed by the husband despite the fact that everyone said he was wrong, including the detective on the case. He made a difference without leaving his apartment.
